В «Крокус Сити Холле» перед концертом группы «Пикник» вооруженные люди в камуфляже открыли стрельбу. После этого они достали из рюкзаков емкости с горючим, разлили его и подожгли. Начался страшный пожар, у здания стала рушиться крыша. Локализовать огонь удалось только около часу ночи по московскому времени. В этот момент в концертном зале могли находиться более 6 тысяч человек — все билеты на концерт были проданы. По предварительным данным, причинами гибели людей стали огнестрельные ранения и отравление продуктами горения. Более сотни пострадавших госпитализированы.
