X2F0B by Wictionary [1]

HachiojiMap.jpg

Word Hachioji [2] begins with or

X2F0B is Unicode character number 12043.

may mean 8 (eight) [3][4]; in Japanese, it can be pronounced as "Hachi".

is used as part of names.

X2F0B is easy to confuse with character X516B , that has similar drawing, pronunciation and meaning.

Confusion

Native Japanese speakers do not care about encoding of the characters they use; this may cause confusions. In particular, character
X2F0B [5], KamnjiRadical is reported to confuse with characters
X30CF [6], KatakanaHa and
X516B [7], KanjiLiberal; it has similar meaning (8) and similar pronunciation [8]

Hachiojishi

often appear at the license plates of vehicles in the word ⼋王⼦ . This word refers to the place near Tokyo.
However, it is difficult to guess, which spelling is used to write these candies; are the first and the last letters KanjiRadical or KanjiLiberal.

The same revers to the road boards and the maps. Looking at a map of Hachioji, it is difficult to chose, which spelling for the first character of the name is better: X2F0B or X516B .
The full name of the place, 八王子市 or はちおうじし can be written in different ways.

The first kanji can be written in two ways:
X2F0B [5], KanjiRadical or
X516B [7], KanjiLiberal

The second kanji X738B is reported to be confused (perhaps, in some computers) with character X2F929 王 [9], but the number is above the standard set X2F00-XFFFF; it is difficult to confuse. So, X738B can be treated as unabiguous character, at least from the point of view of Japanese language.

The third Kanji can be written in two ways:
X2F26 [10], KanjiRadical and
X5B50 [11], KanjiLiberal.

The fourth Kanji X5E02 seems to be not confusive [12]

In such a way, word Hachioji-shi can be written in Japanese in 5 ways:
1. X2F0B X738B X2F26 X5E02 that does ⼋王⼦市
2. X2F0B X738B X5B50 X5E02 that does ⼋王子市
3. X516B X738B X2F26 X5E02 that does 八王⼦市
4. X516B X738B X5B50 X5E02 that does 八王子市
5. X306F X3061 X304A X3046 X3058 X3057 that does , id est, はちおうじし
The last two (way 4 and way 5) seem to be most usual [13].

Formally, combinations of Kanji and Hiragana are allowed; to, the number of correct writings of word Hachiojishi increases to 24 options. It is still less than in case of word Nichiyoubi that counts 60 options.
