Tarja-Japanese

Tarja-Japanese is draft of the Tarja - Japanese dictionary.

Tarja is Visual Japanese, reading Japanese, kind of simplified Japanese. The need in this language arises from disorder with representation of Kanjis in computers; with pictures of the Unicode characters used in Japanese.

For the beginning of century 21, the support of Japanese characters is underdeveloped. Up to year 2021, there is no united standard for the default font, that would allow each character look the same at various computers, but different from other characters.

The fault mentioned causes a lot of confusions. Someone search for some word, but it is not found, because it is typed with different (but very similar) character.

There are many cases, when even a native Japanese speaker, looking at the characters, cannot identify it. Some examples are described in articles Chikara and Nichi. Only from the context, if the reader understands it, the reader can distinguish the katakana from the Kanji.

In addition, some characters are silently (without any warning) replaced to those that, from point of view of the authors of the software, are more suitable. Some of such characters appear in the table KanjiConfudal.

There is no hope, that the fault mentioned will be corrected soon: the professionals do not consider the confusion mentioned as anything serious. Most of manuals of Japanese and the online dictionaries do not even mention this problem. The teachers do not care, if the pupil searches for some word, but cannot find it, because of confusion with similar characters.

It is very difficult to change the standards of education of Japanese, and even difficult to change the computer standards of representation of the Unicode characters. Perhaps, it is easier to construct the special dictionary, that can be used as an intermediate step between the phonetic Japanese and the Kanji words, or between Japanese and English. Such a step appears as a special language with small number of words and simplified grammar, some analogy of the Basic English for Japanese

Tarja includes some non-ambiguous characters of Japanese language. The ambiguities, both phonetic and graphic, are replaced to Romanji (ascii) or Hiragana (if the Hiragana character does not look similar to some Kanji). Katakana has too many confusive characters; so, all the Katakana characters are replaced to Romanji. Words, borrowed from foreign languished, are replaced to their originals.

In such a way, Tarja appear as adaptation of simplified Japanese to moderate graphical abilities of computers: only visually-distinguishable characters are allowed in Tarja.

Dictionaries from Tarja or to Tarja look as an attempt to leap a chasm in two jumps. From the common point of view, it is not possible [1]. The similar opinion I heart from colleagues, when I begun to construct the formalism of Superfunctions. However, I have the powerful instrument, the TORI axioms; here I try to use it for linguistics. The critics should be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely, Editor.

For each case, among other characters, KanjiLiberal seem to be most popular.

At the translation from Tarja to Japanese, by default, it may have sense to chose characters from set KanjiLiberal.
