Cross-sections of the new laser medium versus wavelength, reported in series of publications in 2006 (thick curves); The correction of the emission cross–section that is necessary in order to make it compatible with the McCumber relation and with the Second Law of thermodynamics (thin black curve).

Description

Cross-sections for Yb:Gd2SiO5 versus \( \lambda\) reported [1][2][3] (thick lines) and "minimal" correction of \(\sigma_{\mathrm{emission}}\) from the McCumber relation [4] (thin black line).
