Against the RAS reform

Against the RAN reform is English translation of letter Неприятие реформы РАН by academicians of RAN (Russian Academy of Sciences, RAS), that expresses negative opinion with respect to the project of RAN reform from July 2013.

Since July 2013, the letter is discussed in the internet. In order to simplify the search and citing, the Russian original of this letter is copied from in the article Неприятие реформы РАН. In order to simplify the discussion with colleagues, who are not fluent in Russian, the English translation is loaded below. (However, all scientists are supposed to speak English)

Introduction

Dear Members of the Russian Academy of Sciences!

Many colleagues expressed categorical non-acceptance of the draft of the federal law "On the Russian Academy of Sciences", submitted to the Duma. According to the project, the reform assumes the elimination of the Academy of Sciences and the creation of a new "RAS" in the form of a "club of academics", separated from the institutions. The situation is critical. Rhetoric is not enough. On our side, urgent practical countermeasures to the plans to eliminate the RAS.
