カーゴ・カルトとは端的にいうと「呪物崇拝としての文明の模倣」のこと。メラネシア（オーストラリアの北側一帯）の現住人は戦闘機に乗って文明の利器を運んできた白人を神様と勘違いして、神様がつかっていた工業製品を石とか木で模倣したり、飛行機の着陸の訓練のマネを儀式として繰り返したそうです。詳しくはWikipediaに。
Peter MoosgaardによるSupercargoはそんなカーゴ・カルトの現代版。インターネット上で「カーゴ・カルト的に見える」画像をひたすらTumblrでアーカイブしていくプロジェクト。Supercargo的画像としてはこれとかこれが分かり易いですね。（なぜかガブリエル・オロスコどん兵衛の画像も。）
Supercargo
自分でつくった作品っじゃないってとこが今っぽいなと思うし、画像セレクト／キュレーションのセンスが良く、ユーモアがあって面白いです。こちらのインタビューで「アルス・エレクトロニカって知ってる？あのフェス最近ほんとどんどんくだらなくなってくよね」みたいな感じで語ってるように、このプロジェクトには彼がメディア・アートを学んできて抱いたシーンに対する批判的な態度が反映されているようです。
