In Japanese and in Tarja, 災 may mean calamity, disaster, catastrophe, misfortune.
In Japanese and in Tarja, 災 can be pronounced as サイ, わざわい, wazawai
災 may have also other meanings and other pronunciations dependently on the context.
Confusion
Util.unicode suggests that at some software
glyph 災 (character X707D) [1] can be confused with
glyph 災 (character X2F918)[2].
Editor failed to reproduce this confusion: glyph 災 (character X2F918) looks as a square. It can be easy confused with other characters that also look as scuares, but the glyph observed (square) looks well distinguishable from glyph 災 (character X707D).
For this reason, character 災 is allowed in technical language Tarja.
