Synonyms
紀 (紀 X7D00)
Jisho [2] mention 記 (X8A18 記) as synonym of 紀 (X7D00 紀).
The util.unicode [3] suggests that X7D00 紀 can be confused with X2F96A 紀. This confusion is software-dependent. At least as some computers, X2F96A appears as a rectangle; this rectangle is easy to confuse with some other Unicode characters (that also appear as a rectangle (in some software)), but it is easy to distinguish from 記 and from 紀 (紀 X7D00) (at least in some software).
Kanji 紀 may have similar meaning and similar pronunciation as 記
One may expect, after development of the unambiguous font, some analogy of the sci-fi font «Uniglif», each of characters X7D00, X8A18, X2F96A may get some unique glyph and some unique meaning (and, perhaps, even some unique pronunciation).
While this is not realized, in order to avoid possible confusions at some software, in TORI, the Tarja character X8A18 記 is considered to be better than X7D00 紀.
X8A18 記 is preferred at least in the technical documents in Tarja: they can be printed, then scanned, then again digitalized, and the digitalized text is supposed to be identical to the initial text.
While no analogy of Uniglif is available, in all the cases of possible confusions, the Hexagonal representations X7D00, X8A18, X2F96A sould be used instead of the corresponding glyphs.
しるす and shirusu
しるす and shirusu are phonetic synonyms of 記.
In some context, they may have similar pronunciation and similar meanings.
