| − | [[Western civilization]] traces its roots back to Europe and the Mediterranean. It began in ancient Greece, transformed in ancient Rome, and evolved into medieval Western Christendom before experiencing such seminal developmental episodes as the development of Scholasticism, the Renaissance, the Reformation, the Scientific Revolution, the Enlightenment, the Industrial Revolution, and the development of liberal democracy. The civilizations of classical Greece and Rome are considered seminal periods in Western history. Major cultural contributions also came from the Christianized Germanic peoples, such as the Longobards, the Franks, the Goths, and the Burgundians. Charlemagne founded the Carolingian Empire and he is referred to as the "Father of Europe".[1] .. |

| − | [[Western culture]], also known as [[Western civilization]], European civilization, Occidental culture, Western society, or simply the West, is the internally diverse culture of the Western world. The term "Western" encompasses the social norms, ethical values, traditional customs, belief systems, political systems, artifacts and technologies primarily rooted in European and Mediterranean histories. A broad concept, "Western culture" does not relate to a region with fixed members or geographical confines. It generally refers to the classical era cultures of Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, and their Christian successors that expanded across the Mediterranean basin and Europe, and later circulated around the world predominantly through colonization and globalization. |

| − | Certain |
+ | Certain topics are objects of [[censorship]]. |
| + | The censorship does not explain the motivation for prohibiting certain topics. |
| − | Even worse |
+ | Even worse, there is an internal contradiction: |
| − | In order to prohibit |
+ | In order to prohibit something, the law should describe it carefully, |

| + | but it is often prohibited to expose such examples. |
| − | Often |
+ | Often it is assumed that all prohibitions of human civilization have valid reasons, |
| + | and that society will collapse if these prohibitions are lifted. |
| + | Attempts to analyze such prohibitions often meet [[motivated reasoning]], |
| − | Often, the attempts to reveal the roots of a prohibition meet some kind of [[motivated reasoning]], see «[[Female logic]]». That makes impression, that the rules are just fake, see «[[How to Write a Fake]]». The apology of a rule looks as a [[propaganda]], |
| + | see «[[Female logic]]». |
| − | causing seduction to apply the [[Rule of Newspeak]], id est, |
| − | to insert a rule, to turn it into the prescription or, at least, to the recommendation. |
| + | This creates the impression that some rules are artificial, |
| − | Some prohibitions are easy to understand: |
| + | see «[[How to Write a Fake]]». |
| + | The justification of a rule may resemble [[propaganda]], |
| − | (1) Do not kill unless in defense. |
| + | tempting one to apply the [[Rule of Newspeak]], |
| + | i.e., to inverse the rule, to replace the prohibition of something to its recommendation or even to it prescription. |
| + | However, [[There is no freedom without Law]]. Some prohibitions are easy to understand: |
| − | (2) Do not attack first, do not use menaces. |
| − | ( |
+ | (1) Do not kill, except in defense. |
| − | ( |
+ | (2) Do not attack first; do not threaten. |
| + | (3) Do not steal. |
| − | If we lift any of 1-3 above, the people of a society cannot produce good because all the efforts will be spent to protect themselves in order not to be robbed, not to be killed. |
| + | (4) Do not hide or falsify information. |
| − | If we lift the (4), we have almost the same, as one does not know that the (1-3) are still in action. |
| + | If rules (1–3) are removed, people cannot produce anything useful, |
| − | Forever, even the [[Ten Commandments]] have more rules, and even more articles are specified in a [[Crimimal code]] of any country; and even more so-called "unwritten rules" are followed by the most of population in civilized societies. |
| + | as all effort goes into self-defense. |
| + | If rule (4) is removed, the effect is similar, |
| − | The goal of this research it to understand, how important are other taboos, prohibitions, unwritten rules that usually are added to the (1-4) above. |
| + | because one cannot trust that (1–3) still hold. |
| + | |||
| + | Even the [[Ten Commandments]] include more rules, |
| + | and legal systems contain far more, |
| + | plus many "unwritten rules" followed in civilized societies. |
| + | |||
| + | The goal of this research is to understand how important |

| − | Heart of a Dog (Russian: Собачье сердце, romanized: Sobach'ye serdtse, IPA: [sɐˈbatɕjɪ ˈsʲertsə]) is a novella by Russian author Mikhail Bulgakov. A biting satire of Bolshevism, it was written in 1925 at the height of the New Economic Policy, a period during which communism appeared to be relaxing in the Soviet Union.[1] It is generally interpreted as an allegory of the communist revolution and "the revolution's misguided attempt to radically transform mankind".[2] .. |

| − | Absence of such a [[gedankenesperiment]] at the beginning of century 20 can be considered as |
| − | possible reason of failure of the democratic revolution of 1917 February at [[Moscovia]]: |
| − | The same year, the democracy had been crashed and replaced to bloody dictatorship of [[Bokshevism]]; |
| − | then, the story had repeated in 1990-2000; the attempt to construct a civilized society failed, and the superior power again felt in hands of the bloody agent of [[KGB]], liar and [[war crime]].<br> |
| − | At Moscovia, the attempts to describe the proper society of future look inconsistent, giving food to a humor. |
| − | One example is copypasted below: |
| − | |||
| − | Pay Line was sitting in the the commander's sit, gently keeping the Main Stick of the spacecraft "Tatra" with his strong hand and listening the romantic talking by fat beauty In Grid. She cold talk about her amours during several light years in row... // Suddenly, the radio-traffic-signal broke the monotonous count by In Grid. Pay Line had to apply the hadron brake and stop the spacecraft. After the signal quit, Pay Line accelerated the spaceship, but the signal sounded again... This repeated several times...// Poor His entered the cabin and asked: What's the matter? We are not a firewood to shake us in such a way! - The radio traffic signal... It opens the way, then it closes it, then it opens, and so on, again and again, - explained Pay Line. - "Stupid idiot!" - Poor His cried, - "This is just a pulsar!". |

| + | The absence of any attempt to check the new "revolutionary" idea on a small samples, simple harmless experiments may explain |

| + | failures of the democratic transitions, such as in 1917 or 1990s at [[Moscovia]]. |
| − | post-revolution society is pervaded by the organizers. They are fighting for the power. |
| − | Either they have no time to think about possible sequences, |
| − | or they understand, that the result of their ruling may be horrible, and not publish their forecasts. |
| + | Revolutions often occur when societies try to follow old principles |
| − | This is general rule: any dictator, herring the power, already has his wishes, what one wants to do. This with does not imply any research abut possible results; usually, no experiment is assumed, nor even any |
| + | in new conditions without analysis. |
| − | [[gedanexoeriment]]. |
| + | Leaders seeking power rarely analyze consequences; |
| − | Editor does not make any politic, so such a [[gedankenexperiment]] is presented. |

| + | This project explicitly fills that gap. |
| − | In contrast with the usual, "instanfing" sci-fi, |
| − | the goal of project «[[Tartaria]]» is explicitly declared here. |
| − | In this sense, the «[[Tartaria]]» is outstanding research. |
| + | Unlike typical sci-fi, «[[Tartaria]]» clearly states its purpose: |
| − | All the taboos except (1-4) are explicitly broken in the society described. |
| + | to test what happens when most taboos (except 1–4) are removed. |
| − | If |
+ | If any taboo (beyond 1–4) remains unbroken in [[Tartaria]], |
| − | + | Editor requests to identify it in order to correct this fault. |
| − | May be, namely this helps to reveal some important channel of the collapse of the society described. |

Revision as of 23:33, 31 March 2026
TartariaE00 is an English description of the scientific project «Tartaria».
In TORI, the term «Tartaria» refers to an extensive Gedankenexperiment
about the logical fundamentals of the most popular paradigms, so-called «common sense»:
"The rules are established, just follow!".
As an example, one may check that the addition of the three numbers in the figure at right is performed correctly, following the well-established rules of arithmetic.
The project «Tartaria» aims to analyze the "common sense" taboos, to check and test them, in order to verify or refute them, depending on the results of the Gedankenexperiment.
In such a way, the common-sense taboos become objects of analysis, with the TORI axioms as the main tool.
This article overviews the project.
Taboos
The goal of this experiment is the analysis of taboos of human civilization, mainly those of the so-called «Western civilization»[3][4] or «Western culture» [5].
Many sides of human life seem to be under-investigated, not interpreted, not analyzed; at least in the standard educational scheme.
Two stages are often observed:
1. You are a child — you should not deal with adult questions. [2]
2. You are an adult — you must understand this and not ask "stupid questions". [6]
Certain topics are objects of censorship. The censorship does not explain the motivation for prohibiting certain topics.
Even worse, there is an internal contradiction:
In order to prohibit something, the law should describe it carefully, provide examples of what is prohibited and what is allowed — but it is often prohibited to expose such examples.
Often it is assumed that all prohibitions of human civilization have valid reasons, and that society will collapse if these prohibitions are lifted.
Attempts to analyze such prohibitions often meet motivated reasoning, see «Female logic».
This creates the impression that some rules are artificial, see «How to Write a Fake».
The justification of a rule may resemble propaganda, tempting one to apply the Rule of Newspeak, i.e., to inverse the rule, to replace the prohibition of something to its recommendation or even to it prescription.
However, There is no freedom without Law. Some prohibitions are easy to understand:
(1) Do not kill, except in defense.
(2) Do not attack first; do not threaten.
(3) Do not steal.
(4) Do not hide or falsify information.
If rules (1–3) are removed, people cannot produce anything useful, as all effort goes into self-defense.
If rule (4) is removed, the effect is similar, because one cannot trust that (1–3) still hold.
Even the Ten Commandments include more rules, and legal systems contain far more, plus many "unwritten rules" followed in civilized societies.
The goal of this research is to understand how important the additional taboos and unwritten rules are.
Justification
The Gedankenexperiment «Tartaria» attempts to reveal mechanisms of societal collapse when "common sense" rules are rejected.
Such an experiment may help to counter destructive revolutionary ideas like:
«Und liegt vom Kampfe in Trümmern...» from «Es zittern die morschen Knochen»[7]
«Весь мир насилья мы разрушим...» from «The Internationale»[8][9]
The absence of any attempt to check the new "revolutionary" idea on a small samples, simple harmless experiments may explain failures of the democratic transitions, such as in 1917 or 1990s at Moscovia.
Revolutions often occur when societies try to follow old principles in new conditions without analysis.
Leaders seeking power rarely analyze consequences; they act without experiments or even Gedankenexperiments.
This project explicitly fills that gap.
Unlike typical sci-fi, «Tartaria» clearly states its purpose: to test what happens when most taboos (except 1–4) are removed.
If any taboo (beyond 1–4) remains unbroken in Tartaria, Editor requests to identify it in order to correct this fault.

The narrative of the project happen to be large. It is loaded as set of "spoilers".

Gallery
Very pessimistic views on the future of the Human civilization are expressed by cartoonists. Few examples are shown below.
Project «Tartaria» may suggest a little bit more optimistic, but still realistic forecast.
If success, such a forecasts can be considered as a by-product of this research.
Warning and apology
The project «Tartaria» does not propose a better society.
TORI is not about what *should be*, but about what *may happen*.
If an engineer or glaciologist warns a captain not to sail at full speed, ascribing the possible catastrophic scenario — do not blame them for the moral story.
Do not confuse the Narrator with the personages.
